My Great Grandparents were Adolph and Alvina Bulau Baumgart, Alvina parents Great Great Grandpa and Grandma Fredrick and Louise Mielke Bulauborn and married in Germany and now buried in Buffalo Lake Cemetery at Buffalo Lake in southern Minnesota. They had five children, Alvina (Mrs.Adolph Baumgart, Amelia (mrs. Ferdinand Schliep) Herman, Adolph and Bertha (Mrs. Charles Palmer) Louise Bulau's parents were Adolph and Louise Mielke(See separte article below) who is also the great grandparents of the descendents of Sargent Palmer of New Jersey who's son Charles Palmer was married to my Great Grandma's(Alvina Baumgart) sister Bertha Bulau was married to Charles Palmer son of Sargent Palmer first white resident of Evergreen Township who came to Evergreen from Showhegan, Maine at the age of 16 in 1882. Charles was first President of Evergreen State Bank who's charter later became the People's State Bank of Frazee and Later Citizen's State Bank of Frazee. On January 25, 1901 Charles was the Evergreen Township Clerk.
In 1883 Alvina and husband Adolph Baumgart, imigrated to the United States.
They worked, sending money to pay for the transportation of the rest of the family to America.In 1885 Fredrick and Louis sailed from Bremen, along with 15 years old Bertha and Brother Adolph ((who had been born in Elsenthal, Germany May 27, 1876.Adolph later farmed in Glencoe area until 1918 when he sold his farm. He moved to Evergreen township where he bought a farm in section 29 and live there until he entered Sunny Side Rest Home at Lake Park Minnesota.Adolph never married he died 11/10/1961. ))They arrived in New York two weeks later and in another week were in their new home inGlencoe, Minnesota.The came in Berthas's words,"So we could have a better life in the States, and we Thank God that we came."Germany at this time was going through severe economic hardships where you almost had to have a grocery bad of money to buy a sugar bag of food in an exaggerated way.
It is not known when Amelia and Herman joined the family in America.The family eventually setted in the Buffalo Lake and Evergreen areas in Minnesota where Charles (Carl Baumgart) became one of the earliest land settlers of evergreen township.
Frederick died in 1903, and was buried in the Buffalo Lake Cemtery.Louise died in 1913.
Adolph and Alvina Baumgart had 5 sons, Otto born 4/18/1885 died 6/23/1968 who married Hedwig Bahls, daughter of John Bahls Jr.and Mary Damlo Bahls on 9/16/1926, children included 4 sons Raymond Wilbur born June 13, 1927- married Luella Mae Johnson 8/12/1947, Leroy born May 24, 1930 and married Esther Agnes Bergstrom on 10/12/1955, Arland born 3/27/1932 married to Doreen Manning,9/9/1955, Wayne born 9/4/1943 married to JoAnn Jutz July 11, 1964. Wayne died in a plane crash in chamberlin, SD 4/9/1981 and Hedwig's daughter Gladys born March 1926.,
Adolph and Alvinas next son Louis born April 10, 1891 died 12/14/1972 (never married but saw action in World War II as part of Infantry company D in 353 Infantry division 6/28/1918 to 2/22/1919 and saw
action in the Argone Offense)
Bill(William)born 4/12/1899 died 2/19/1936 married to Gertrude Poppe later Gertrude Mautz after Bill died had one two sons Loren married to Grace Bucholtz and Leslie Donald Born 8/2/1927 and died 8/11/1927.
Adolph and Alvinas next son Herman born 7/25/1894- died 6/13/1977 (in the 349th Infantry Regiment 2/24/1918 to 4/19/1919)married to Alice Boldt daugther of Adolph Boldt and Laura Potraz Boldt had two sons, Vernon married to Lavina Jeanette Peterson May 5, 1950 and Lowell born 9/26/1946 married Susan Sczygiel 6/30/1979.
Adolph and Alvina next son Leonard born 12/14/1925 died 1/31/1978 married to Frieda Wendt 4/22/1925 had 5 daughters, Alice Gladys born 8/16/1927 died 8/16/1927, Mildred born April 15,1930 died 10/1/1953 in auto accident near Frazee, Virginia Marcella born 2/28/1934 married Arlo Leslie Zepper, 7/23/1952, Mae Muriel born ???? married Elmer Schultz 11/19/1946 and Jeanette Marie born 9/28/1939 Married to Dennis Schwartzrock 4/11/195?Leonard lived in Evergreen all his life.Was a farmer in dairy cattle, beef, pigs and was a lover of horses and always had them around.He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Evergreen,Served on the School board.
My greatgreatgrandparents on my Grandma Baumgart's side were John Bahls Sr.) and Mary Rischow and Great Granparents John Balls Jr.((born 7/22/1857- 12/12/1929) son of John Bahls Sr. and Mary Damlo Bahls (1-31-1868-12/1/1944) daughter of John (?) and Mary Damlo.
Great Grandpa Baumgart's brother was Charley (Carl) Baumgart who with Bertha Thomas Baumgart) married in Evergreen Township on Jan 10, 1901 had ten (10) children including, Grace, Katigne Frances, Lester Ray, Albert Carl, Mabel Hazel, (The Twins) Herman William and Theodore Leonard, Reuben Verlin, Elizabeth June and Violet.
Grace born 1/10/1902, married Martin Bjorson 2/21/1919,
Katigne Frances born 10/7/1903 married Alfred Beck 10/19/1921,
Lester Ray born 4/5/1910 married Ruby Leonard on 2/25/1934, they had eight children. Hazel (Bubbles) born 3/9/1936, Virginia born, 5/10/1938, Jerome (Sonny) born 1/15/1940/ Carol born 12/20,1941,Mary born 1/14/1944, Barbara born 4/9/1946, Donald born 11/9/1948 and Steven born 5/18/1951. Ruby died 9/25/1976, Lester died on ??? (see further information of Lester and Ruby children below)
Charley and Bertha's next child wasAlbert Carl born 2/15/1912 died 2/26/1992 married Mildred A Gustafson children included Kathleen,12/18/1903 to 6/20/1990, Marilyn born 10/7/1932, Beverly 4/13/1938/Barbara/4/13/38 and Judith Baumgart 11/16/1946 and Nancy Baumgart children with Lester and Mildred Baumgart. Albert died spring of 1992,

Violet born 3/12/1930, married Wilho E Makinen, 9/14/1951 .

History of Adolph and Louise Mielke (Great Grandparents of Mrs. Adolph Baumgart (Alvina Bulau, Mrs. Charles Palmer (Bertha Bulau), Amelia Schleep,
Adolph Bulau, and Herman Bulau,
Mrs. Louise Mielke was a resident of McLeod County for nearly 3/4 of a century century, during here girlhood Mcleod County was pioneer country, and she had witnessed all its wonderful developments from the frontier stage down until the time of her death.
Mrs. Mielke was about 4 years old when brought to Minnesota. She was born on a farm in Cook County Illinois, near Chicago, June 30, 1856. Her parents Henry and Margaret Boothman Johnson came from Germany and settled on a farm in Illinois in 1855. In 1860 they came to McLeod County, acquired land and developed a farm, living there during the great Inidan scare of 1862. They were members of the Lutheran Church and Henry Johnson always voted the Republican ticket.
Miss Louise Johnson as a girl attended country schools, and school lasted only for a few months each year. When she was sixteen years old in 1872 she was united in marriage with Adolph A. Mielke. He was a native of Germany born October 29, 1852, but had lived in Minnesota since he was ten years old. Mr. Mielke became a well-to-do farmer in McLeod County, operated a threshing outfit for a number of years and was a man of successful enterprise, and active in township affairs and served as County Commissioner. He died in Glencoe October 24, 1922, Mrs. Mielke for many years has been a resident of Glencoe. Besides her home there she owns her farthers old homestead of three hundred sixty acres.
She was an active member of the Congregational Church.
Mrs. Mielke had five children: Minnie the oldest by her first marriage had two children Louise and John Pryor and she is now the wife of I.D. Allen, a jeweler in Cooperstown, ND The second child, Nellie Mielke, deceased was the first wife of ID Allen abd four children were born to their marriage: Robert A., Spencer I., Gordon and Nelliea; I da is the wife of J.F. Specer of Houston, Texas, and has a daughter Marion Spencer. Elizabeth married H.A. Thoney was was president of the First National Bank of Glencoe and they had two sons: Matthew A. and Henry E. deceased. Edwin J. Mielke was a farmer near Glencoe, married Della Kherner, and has three children, Mary Louise, Norma and John Edwin.
