P.F. Leonard-award cup 1852
Saw the following on latest Newsletter from Roots Web:
I have a small silver award cup that I would like to give to a
descendant of the person mentioned in the engraving on the cup.
The cup is very small, has seen rough times, and would not be
worth much money, but might certainly be prized by some family
member. The engraving reads: "Awarded by the S.C.A.S. at the 7th
An'l Fair Oct 1 1852 to P. F. Leonard for the 2nd best Single
Harness Horse Southern raised." On the bottom of the cup is
"J. E. Caldwell Co., Philadelphia, Pure Silver Coin." S.C.A.S.
stands for South Carolina Agricultural Society, which was
chartered by South Carolina statute #1625, December 19, 1795.
If you can prove that your ancestor was the above P. F. Leonard,
I'd be happy to turn this cup over to you, although I love it
very much myself.
