I have made some progress since then. According to Ellis Island, Emil Lenz was born around 1883 (30 in 1914, 37 for the 1920 census, 47 for the 1930 census). I have had the state of Wisconsin look for his death certificate in Kenosha and Milwaukee counties for 1954-1958, with no luck. (Hopefully this will give me parents and/or place of birth.) Also according to Ellis Island, Tillie was born around 1885, Olga around 1907, Rose around 1909, and Amalia around 1912. According to the California Death Index, Meta was born on 5/23/1909 in Russia, and died on 9/7/1988. The Los Angeles county library can’t find her obituary or that of her husband, Joseph Louis Blahut. Anyway, it appears that the children were born in Russia, and that the family were German-speaking Lutherans. Progress has been like pulling teeth. I located a descendent of Emil’s brother Carl Lenz (9/15/1895-10/1985), but he has no desire to talk about the family - perhaps for fear of identity theft, etc. I am going to wait on him a little longer, and then have the state of Wisconsin look for Carl’s death certificate. Anyway, Emil had at least two younger brothers - August (8/4/1891-?) and Carl, and a father named either Gottlieb or August (or both?). The father would, presumably, have been born somewhere around 1865. So, I just don’t go back far enough to say if this family is connected to yours. I will let you know if and when I find anything out. Kurt. Notify Administrator about this message?
