Lent Family History
The family origin is from Lent, Holland - Van Lent - Riker - Suydam are family names.
They came to this country many years ago - Abraham 1st, son Ryck [ Richard ] became owner of what was then known as Ryck's Patent [now Peekskill - Cortlandt Manor area ] I believe it was over 1800 acres of land. He n his brother assmed the name of Van Lent and later families dropped the Van. There is a great deal of information on this family available and if you are related in any way you should educate yourself to their history, very interesting details.
Great Revolutionary WAr soldiers - some parts of the family, Adolph's sons went behind the lines in Queens and on to N S, Tories - first settlers of that area...
I do not know which gravestone you seen for Abraham, but it surely is not for the first Abraham - the original cemetery is located in Queens, NY. Information can be obtained from the Queens Historical Society. The original home still stands, now privately owned, but just beautiful to see.
