Hamilton Lenox, Crawford Co., MO

I am posting this as a courtesy to the many on the Lenox Family Forum requesting information on Lenox families in St. James, which I assume is in Phelps Co., MO.

Geographically Phelps is near Crawford, and the use of the given name Hamilton in the Lenox line suggests there may be a connection. I am not a Lenox researcher, but I copied this information because two teenage Howard boys were living in 1850 as laborers with the family: H. Howard, aged 19, and D. Howard, aged 17, both born in MO and who probably are part of my family from Gasconade Co., MO (again note geography).

At any rate, I hope this helps a Lenox researcher! Here goes:

Crawford County, MO marriage records:

Hamilton Lenox married Mariah Harrison on 4 September 1834 in Crawford Co., MO. The service was performed by David Lenox, PG (I think PG means Preacher of the Gospel?).

Hamilton and Mariah Lenox are shown in the 1850 US Census, Crawford, pp. 193 and 194, household 84, enumerated on 14 August 1850. The listing reads:

Hamilton Lenox 44 male born in KY $1600
MC (Mariah) 37 female born in So. Car. wife
JM 15 male born in MO
NH 13 male born in MO
TH 10 male born in MO
DF 8 male born in MO
RM 7 male born in MO
ML 6 female born in MO
MM 5 female born in MO
LL 3 female born in MO
R. Johnson 35 male, laborer, born in TN
H. Howard 19 male, laborer, born in MO
D. Howard 17 male, laborer, born in MO

If anyone has any information on the H. Howard and D. Howard enumerated above, please contact me. The Howard family, two branches, has connections in Gasconade Co., MO,(1820s) Marion Co., AR, (1840 plus) Izard Co., AR (1830), and Madison Co., AR. (1860), Franklin Co., AR (1880s), and by 1902 in Sequoyah Co., IT. The Howard family, both branches, was in KY before they arrived in the 1820s in the MO and AR area.

I have no further knowledge of Hamilton Lenox, but I hope the material above helps Lenox researchers.
Best regards, Pansylea Howard Willburn
