I have a written history from my GG Grandmother Matilda Elias Norwood that names Nanoe Middleton Lenoir as her grandfather. She states that he lived in Alabama and was married to a Miss Pitts who was well off. She also writes that he was called Major and that he must have served in some of the French and Indian wars. Do you think it is possible that her grandfather was James M. Lenoir and thathis nickname was Nanoe? My GG Grandmother was born in 1848 and her mother Mary Matilda Lenoir was born April 23, 1824 in Alabama.
This would mean that Nanoe Lenoir would have been born in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. Thanks for any of your help. Carolyn
