Hi Ian,This all started when I found a page from a Sydney Newspaper daated 9th Dec. 1978 that my grandmother had kept about 'Restoration of the Lapstone Bridge' that David Lennox had built. And one of my granfather's sisters was called 'Dorothy Lennox Jameson'.In my family history I have a James Jameson who married a Janet Lennox Symington in Aylesbury, England in 1856 - Janet's mother was Marion Lennox who married Henry (Hendry) Symington in 1810 in Ochiltree,Ayr,Scotland whose father was Andrew Lennox.
Over the last 2 months I have been into the Sydney Library - reading books on David Lennox & the bridges he designed in NSW & Victoria.I cannot believe that such a famous man is buried without a monument in Old Parramatta Cemetry (St.Johns) - is that correct?Even went to look at Lennox Bridge, Parramatta - very impressive even to this day & also went to see the house in Parramatta where he lived after his retirement but sadly only a block of dirt now.
Do you know why he sailed to Australia & left his 2 girls behind who from reading a book came to Aust. in 1836 with James Dalziel (whose wife & family I do not know their names -can you put light on this for me?).Are you related to James Dalziel?
If you know of any details of the 'Lennox' Family I would love to know - do you know if anyone has done a 'generation book' or has done a book of the name 'Lennox' in Scotland?
We live in Sydney, New South Wales. Regards Vicki & Richard.
