Lemon/Lamon - Northern Ireland to Pennsylvania
For many years I did not know my great-great-great grandmother Hatton's maiden name. All I knew was her first name was Eliza and she was born in Ireland somewhere. I suspected her maiden name to be Lemon, because her first born son's name was Thomas Lemon Hatton (my great-great grandfather).
On that assumption, her family bible was found by a distant cousin in the Pennsylvania Historical Society. In the bible she states her maiden name was Lamon, but she lists her son's birth name as Thomas Lemon Hatton. She states she came from the town of Ballygan, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Her father was Robert Ellis Lamon and her mother was Nancy Creilman. She did not give her parents dates, nor did she name any siblings, other than a brother Robert Lamon. She gave her birthdate as August 7, 1799 and brother Robert's birthdate as May 1, 1803. We know that she and her brother migrated to Philadelphia sometime before 1830, because by that date she was married to a Hatton and her first son was born in 1831, in Philadelphia.
Our family thinks she may have been married in Ireland to a Joseph Mc Quiston, but that is pure family lore and we do not know if true or what became of that marriage. We know that Robert was still alive in 1854, when Eliza died and that he had her buried in a cemetery plot which he owned. I would like to find out more about Robert Lamon and did he have a family here? Also interested in finding out more about their family of origin. Dates of parents. Siblings. The Mc Quiston marriage. Immigration information. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks. Pam
