Lawrence-Monroe County Indiana Lemon’s 2nd Generation Movements West I
William Lemon of Chambersburg, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania and Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky who moved to Lawrence Co., Indiana had seven children. All lived and died in Monroe or Lawrence County, Indiana. However, many of their children migrated West. Listed below is an accounting of some of the 2nd generation (William’s grandchilden’s migrations.
John Andrew Miller Lemon (1805- Aft 1860), m Martha Miller
William Harrison Lemon (1832-Aft 1920), physician, m. Charlotte Insley? Moved to Lawrence, Douglas Co., Kansas had six children all born in Indiana, all moved to Kansas and died there except William Walter—I lost him after 1870, before Kansas. The others were: John Dela (1859-Aft 1900), never married; Mary Francis (1861- After 1880), lost her too, but in Kansas; Ida C. (1863-Aft. 1930) m. Robert M. Morrison, six children; Edward Sherman (1867-1943), m Olive Hinchman, five children; Nora P Lemon (1869-1943), m. James O’Bryon, two children. William took his mother Cynthia, widow of John Andrew Miller Lemon with him to Kansas.
Alexander Downing Lemon (1834-Abt. 1910), lawyer, judge, m. Eliza Mark. Moved to California about 1874, then Phoenix, Az. (1876-1890) finally settling in San Francisco, California. Had six children, Kerr (b. 1876 in Ca. died young in Az.) Others were: Douglas Mark (1863-Aft 1920) m. Isabel Gonzales, stayed in Phoenix area, six children; Theodocia Mark (1864-Aft 1910), moved to San Francisco, never married; Lawrence Mark (1868-1920), teacher (Az),m Mary E. Unknown, no known children, stayed in Phoenix area, suspected of murder in 1895, moved to San Francisco c. 1900; Mark Lawrence (1874-Aft 1910), photographer, no known marriage; Don Mark (1875-1961), science fiction writer of some repute, m. Ola Hamilton, moved to San Francisco, then San Diego about 1907., no children.
Alfred Homer Lemon (1836-1917, lawyer then taxidermist, m. R. Josephine Unknown moved with many Monroe and Lawrence Co. families to Union, White Co., Arkansas. Had two children born in Indiana: Olie May (1869-1924) m. Ed Olmstead, three children all in Arkansas; Minnie J.(1871-Aft 1920) m. 1 Uknown Judd, three children in Arkansas, divorced and m.2 Alva Garrett, 2 more children. Garrett was a RR man, his two children were b. in Illinois. They all wound up in Oklahoma where Garret had a newspaper. Childen were:Nelli Judd (1891-?); Cleo L. Judd m. Bernice L. Unknown, four childen, RR man died in Fl.; Dudley Judd (Sr), 1895-Aft 1930) Newpaper man in Okla., m. Ruby unknown, 2 children, (Youngest son Orville killed in WWII Pacific theater); John Witt Garrett (1902 ?-2000), newspaper man, m. Hazel Courson, 1 child. Family staed in Oklahoma; Mary A Garrett (1906-?Aft 1920).
