I am also interested in the name Lemon.I was reading today ( I don't remember the source) that John Lemon sold his bounty land and did not occupy it.
My interest is that my 3rd gr-grandfather was James Ramsey, who served in the same outfit. It is probable that he enlisted in 1780 from Westmoreland Co, PA.When his first wife died, he married an Elizabeth Lemon in Lincoln County, KY.She brought into the family twin step-brothers, John Buckner Pittman and William Buckner Pittman. There was a Sargt Buckner Pittman in the same outfit; his father was john. From Southern naming conventions, it is quite probable that their maternal grandfather was William Lemon.
Who was this woman? In Wm L. Pittman's family Bible, she was named in death as Betsee Lemon Ramsey, agreeing with her marriage papers. However, her Ramsey descendants called her Betsee Pittman.BTW, Buckner Pittman married 3 months before Betsee and James Ramsey Married?
Big Mystery.Any help appreciated.
