Jennifer--We have done a DNA test on two male relatives of the "Irish" James Lemmon line and have found the following family group for Irish James:
James Lemon/Lemmon b County Tyrone, IRE d PA m unknown.James Lemon/Lemmon's children were:
l. William Lemmon/Lamon b 1743 County Tyrone, IRE d bet. 1808/09 Westmoreland Co PA m Martha Adams d 1812; 2. James Lemon Jr. b c1750 County Tyrone, IRE d 1832 Scott Co KY m1 ?Amelia Innes? m2 Isabella McMurtry 23 Jul 1807 Bourbon Co KY; m3 widow Frances Proctor Oct 1820 Jassamine Co KY; 3. John Lemmon/Lemon b County Tyrone, IRE c1766 d bfr 1838 Scott Co KY m widow Martha Hare; 4. (poss)Alexander Lemmon/Lamon b County Tyrone, IRE; 5. (poss)George Lemmon/Lamon b County Tyrone, IRE; 6. (poss)Samuel Lemmon/Lamon b County Tyrone, IRE; 7. Jane Lemmon/Lamon b County Tyrone, IRE; 8. Robert Lemmon/Lamon b c1752/55 County Tyrone, IRE d 1848 Columbia, MO m Mary McCowan/McKowan 1788 Berkley Co VA.
This family has a tradition that Irish James had nine sons and one daughter. All nine sons are said to have served in the Revolution--this family tradition was related in two of Irish James' son's lines. Now that I've seen that you have a Thomas listed as a possible sibling there would be nine sons.It is interesting in that three of Irish James' sons went to Scott Co KY, and recently I found a Thomas Lemmon listed on the 1810 Scott Co KY census. Also in a will in Scott Co KY for James Lemmon b c1750 he mentions a sister Ann White, could this be Jane?
As to the James you found that was killed at the Battle of Brandywine--that James Lemen was of the Nicholas Lemen line.We do not know if the Nicholas Lemen line is related to the Irish James line or not.We are looking for someone to do a DNA test for the Nicholas Lemen line.
Your listing for a second John Lemmon b 1794 (my info says 1792) was the son of William Lemmon b 1743 and Martha Adams. This John Lemmon was a twin to William Lemmon b 1792/94 m Jane Matthews>they had a son John McConnell Lemmon b 8 May 1827.
