I am troubled by accepting the name of Guillaume "Le Normand" Lemoine mother as Jeanne Madre. I have seen a copy of the marriage record of Guillaume Lemoine and Marie Sanmerine. There is given his mother's name as "Jeanne", but I cannot see "Madre", and according to the abstract, her name is not given. I have been told his mother's name is given as "Madre" in other original documents---but I have not seen this---which documents? Particularly troubling is even if "Madre" is stated, for instance, in a later record, perhaps the record of a later marriage, if the document is Spanish, for instance a marriage record of Pointe Coupee in the Spanish period----"Madre" means only "Mother", and what the document may be saying is only that his "mother, Jeanne"!!!!!!

Where is all this going???? I don't know, but note that Charles Lemoine (of Montreal fame) had a son Jacques who married a Jeanne de Carion. Could it be that Guillaume is a son of that Jacques Lemoine and that "Jeanne"??? If so that would make Iberville and Bienville his uncles, and that would be an important discovery!

So I say, from what original document do we believe that Guillaume Lemoine's mother was Jeanne Madre---and if it is a Spanish document---what are we seeing?????????????
