Hi I am trying to locate information on a this family. (John) Adam Lemmond 1860/1932, married (Mary) Henrietta Harkness 1858/1924, in Union Co. NC in 1879. They moved to Bibb Co./Jefferson Co. AL in the early 1880's. Henrietta's mother Elizabeth was full blooded Indian, assuming Cherokee. She didn't speak English until her mid 20's. Her father was Elias S Harkness and he was a magistrate and they ran a Stage Coach line in Indian Trail NC. Before they moved to Al., they had adopted my G'Grandmother Elizabeth. She was full blood Cherokee. She couldn't speak English as a young girl either. I am assuming they were from the Cherokee Reservation in Cherokee Co. NC. Years ago some relatives from there wrote another family member and invited them to the reservation to visit and meet their other relatives. Adam and Henrietta's children are; Washington Suttle Lemmond, 1888-1905 Elizabeth Lemmond (George) 1880/1929 (the 2nd Elizabeth) William Lemond, Charlie LeMond, (notice name spelling change) Virgie Lemmond 1884-1903, Mark Lemond. Adam, Henrietta, Washington, Vergie, and Elizabeth are buried in the Buckville Cemetery in Jefferson Co. AL. Any information on this family will be greatly appreciated.
