Hi Diane!!
Thank you for your note about the Inkster Lemerys.I was aware that some Lemerys settled there but have not established a connection to my grandmother Hellene Lemery or her parents, Antoine and Henriette Lemery.Antoine came from Lorraine, France and his Lemery children are either accounted for or I can't find them. Two went on the Oregon Trail in 1854 and created Lemery families in Oregon. One died in the Civil War, etc. There are a lot of Lemerys in the East but I suspect that any connection to my Lemerys was made in France, not in the USA.Those Lemerys seem to have come from Canada.
Other tantalizing hints come up.I have a photo of a Lemery-made clarinet in an Italian collection from about 1800.Even today, the name Lemaire is well known for wind instruments.I haven't found very many Lemerys in Europe although there are some.Maybe, I'll go there in a year or so to look.
Where did your Inkster ancestors come from and when?Last summer, my sister and I visited Devils Lake and Sheyenne, the area where our father(Philip Brown, son of Hellene Lemery) and four siblings homesteaded in from 1888 to 1912.
Good Wishes!!
