Born either in England or France. Was a planter by occupation. He arrived in St. Maries Co., MD prior to 21 Sept. 1662. Information from "LeMasters, USA 16-39-1965" by Howard M.Lemaster and Margaret Herberger.
In a paper by Edward L. Woodyard, One Spruce Hollow, Armonk, NY 10504 dated 25 March 1994 he write this about Abraham:
"The immigrant was Abraham LeMaitre, a Hugenot born 1637 in the Parish of Derval, Diocese of Nantes, France. Before the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685 by King Louis XIII, the Huguenots of France had enjoyed a good deal of religious, political and social freedom, having formed a Protestant republic within the Roman Catholic kingdom. However, persecutions against the Hugenots became more intense even before Cardinal Richelieu brought about the revocation of the edict after he had conquered the Huguenot cities. At this time, 21-year- old Abraham LeMaitre emigrated from France to England where he anglicized his surname to Lemaster, and then two years later, in 1660, immigrated with his wife Elizabeth to southern Maryland, settling in the western part of St. Mary's Co., that later became Charles Co.,. A carpenter, Abraham Lemaster appeared before the St. Mary's court on 16 November 1668 and confirmed his assignment of a 50-acre grant awarded him on the completion of his indenture to Roger Snell who had himself been indentured to William Boreman, one of Lord Calvert's feudal barons. Abraham Lemaster became a tenant on a plantation called "Betty's Delight" which bordered on a low marshy area called Zekiah Swamp and was near the main commercialtown of Port Tobacco. A tenant to the owner Edward Evans, Abraham Lemaster bought the 200-acre plantation from Evans in November 1685 and died there on 6 December 1722 and was survived by his wife. His will was written on 20 September 1722 and inventory was dated Charles Co., on 21 March 1722/3.
"Having given his eldest son Richard, then five years old, a 50-acre tract in Charles Co., in 1675 called "Toombett," Abraham Lemaster omitted this son's name from his will. His other children were bequeathed as follows: his son John received "Betty's Delight," his daughters Sarah Tennison and Mary Barron wach received equal shares of a plantation called "Berry's," his daughter Anne Noe was allowed to live at "Betty's Delight" "during her husband's absence" and his wife was allowed to live on "Betty's Delight" for the remainder of her life. She died in 1727."
There is controversy regarding his birthplace. In the Charles Co., MD court and land records (Liber H Book2 Page 415) there is a deposition of Abraham Lemaistre in 1720 that he was born in old Jersey (Isle of Jersey) to John and Sarah Lemaistre. On the same page there is a deposition of his son John asking for proof of age of his son-in-law. The book gives Abraham's age as 81.
His will is found on page or folio 106 of "Charles Co., Maryland Probate Records, Inventories, Book 1717-1735". Maryland Calendar of Wills: Volume 5

"Richard Lemaster was born 1670 at Charles Co., Maryland where, at the age of five he was issued a patent for a 50-acre tract of land called "Toombett;" the land was secured by his father in his name. In 1690 Richard Lemaster married in 1690 [sic] Martha Dennis (or Denys) and settled at "Toombett.". . .
"Like his father, Richard Lemaster was a carpenter and a major dealer in real estate in Charles Co., between 1700 and 1740. In 1722, after the death of his mother, he bought the family plantation "Betty's Delight" from his brother John for 5,000 pounds of tobacco; Richard Lemaster later willed the plantation to his son John who sold the plantation out of the family in 1747. Richard Lemaster is believed to have died in Charles Co., about 1745. He was predeceased by his wife who died in Charles Co., between 1713-1723."
