I have recently learned that David Scott, the Captain of the company in which Joseph LeMasters enlisted in Monongalia, was a recent former resident of Hampshire County, (now West) Virginia. I believe this explains why Joseph went to Monongalia to enlist and strengthens my theory that Isaac and Benjamins LeMasters resided in Hampshire County, not Monongalia.

I believe they may have lived somewhere on/near the South Branch of the Potomac River, because that is where one of the two John Martins lived (or possibly nearby on Green Spring Run, just to the West), and this way Benjamin could have met and courted Rebecca Martin, daughter of John.

If you have any information to support or refute my theory, please contact me at
