Jeanne, Firstly, I'm Canadian. Born and raised in Winnipeg and I now reside near Toronto. Secondly, what you're saying is incorrect from what I've been told. I have a friend who's a member of the Manitoba Metis Federation who informs me that one must provide **proof** that he/she is of at least 1/4 Indian blood to be considered for status. Whether this is at the Federal or provincial level, I don't know, but that's what I was told. Thirdly, there are far more Aboriginal Canadians with small amounts of European blood than there are white Canadians with Aboriginal blood. By your reasoning, an Aboriginal person with 6 per cent European blood should identify themselves as European if they so choose. Considering all the struggles Canadian Aboriginals have endured over the centuries, if I were a Native, I'd feel a little perturbed that an "Indian" with 98 per cent European blood would consider themselves as such. Cheers. Notify Administrator about this message?
