Hi, Dennis: I've been contemplating (and procrastinating!) writing a piece on all the errors in Lanctot's book and seeing if anyone with an Acadian genealogy Web site is interested in placing it on their page. Please pardon me if I sound a bit over-the-top, but it really bothers me that so many people take Lanctot's book as fact. Every time I see people listing the name "Jean-Claude Landry" as the progenitor of the Landry name in their family tree (along with his two sons with a 16-year age gap and BOTH named Rene!!! haha) or mentioning that Radegonde Lambert was born in France to parents "Jehan Lambert and Unknown MicMac Indian Woman" I have to take a deep breath and count to 10!!! You know Acadian history/genealogy better than I do, Dennis, so I'm sure you know what I'm talking about! Also, I once read that you should disregard any birth listed as being in Acadia prior to 1636. If an Acadian was born before 1636, it would have been in France. Nonetheless, I believe Father Lanctot ignores lists a few Acadians as being born at Port Royal in the 1620s ... at which time it was basically abandoned. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. All the best. DJB Notify Administrator about this message?
