Lucie: Well said. I just wanted to say I always enjoy visiting your website. Many thanks for all the work you've done as far as publishing the recent mtDNA results of some of our Acadian ancestors. Although Catherine Bugaret is not in my family tree (I'm only of 1/4 French ancestry and of that only about half those lines lead to Acadia), I am very interested in hearing what her mtDNA results will be. Any word on when they will be finalized? Like you, I believe Catherine was probably of European ancestry. I don't claim to be an expert on Acadian genealogy. But based on my readings, as well as from what census data tells us and from the way in which family trees tend to point, it seems to me that when French men married Amerindian women it was more often than not a case of French blood going into the Amerindian gene-pool and not the other way around. By that I mean that when these men would take Native brides they probably re-located to Mik'Maq villages with their brides where they would act as liasons between the Acadians and the Natives. This would explain the lack of Amerindian women listed in census reports of the time. I could be far off track, but this is just my opinion. Merry Christmas! Notify Administrator about this message?
