Hiya Jean,

You might find this interesting. It has been shown that there was at least one Acadian in Louisiana before the events of 1755.

This was Joseph de Goutin de Ville, who had been born at Port-Royal on March 19, 1705. He was one of the 13 children born to the magistrate Mathieu de Goutin and the local miller's daughter Jeanne Thibodeau.

Because of his father's official status, Joseph's family had to leave Acadia after the conquest of 1710, and they subsequently settled at Louisbourg, where Joseph grew up. After the fall of the fortress there in 1745, he moved to New Orleans, where he married in 1747.

He and his wife, Marie-Jeanne Caron, had eight children. One might wonder whether Joseph's Acadian connections were known to the refugees who began to arrive in Louisiana from 1764 onward, until one sees that his son Jean-Baptiste stood as godfather for one of the children of the first little group from Georgia and that his house served as a rallying point for the protest of 1768.

These make it clear that his relatives knew who he was. Indeed, it is quite possible that Joseph himself played an important part in encouraging many of the first Acadians to go to Louisiana, particularly as he was nearly related, on his mother's side, to the Olivier Landry who led the 1764 group, as well as to the wives of the celebrated Broussard dit Beausoleil brothers.

Acadian historian and genealogist Stephen White gave a presentation regarding Joseph de Goutin de Ville during the World Acadian Congress in 1999. For more information, see http://www.acadian-cajun.com/degoutin.htm and http://www.umoncton.ca/etudeacadiennes/centre/contak/28gene.html.
