Could DNA testing determine New Hampshire Leightons Origins?
I am looking for male Leighton's in Scotland, England and the U.S. who would be interested in submitting Y chromosome DNA samples to be compared with other Leightons to see if it can be determined whether Thomas Leighton of Dover, NH (1633) was of the Scottish Leightons or the English Leightons (or any other Leightons, for that matter). The test would also be used to see how many Leighton groups exist Today.
The Y chromosome is passed virtually unchanged from father to son and can be used to determine ones paternal ethnic heritage. It mutates very slowly over many generationsand therefore is ideal for making connections between groups which have been separated for generations and where Family Trees can go no further.
I have already been tested.I chose FamilytreeDNA of Houston, TX to conduct the tests. They have a good reputation and an interesting website, FamilytreeDNA.com.I recommend that anyone interested in using DNA testing to fill in blank spots in genealogies or if you are just curious to visit this website.
And contact me if you think that you may be interested in being tested.
