This is an obit of a person that has died in Canada.

Leighton, Valere: April 12, 1929 - August 24, 2007. At age 78, Val beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend passed away after a courageous struggle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Doreen; his daughters, Susan, Shanny, Carol (Keith Brown) and Jane; his precious grandchildren, Nicole, Michael, Derek, Caleigh, Kelsey and Kevin; his dearest great-grandson, Jackson; and his honorary granddaughter, Ruth. He will remain forever in the hearts of his sons-in-law, Terry Nipp, Ken Hickey and John Begg; as well as his many dear friends. He is survived by his loving sister, Pauline (Jim) Murray. Predeceased by his older sister, Clarice (Lew Phillips). Val was born in England. After bringing his family to Alberta and obtaining a First Class Steam Engineer Certificate, he spent his life in the oil industry. He completed his career teaching at Keyano College in Fort McMurray. In 1989, Val and Doreen retired to Penticton where they spent 18 happy years. In Penticton he golfed, joined the Navy Vets and welcomed countless relatives and friends. His family and friends will forever miss his humour, love and guidance. The family would like to express their thanks to all the medical professionals who provided amazing care, Dr. Albrecht, The Cross Cancer Clinic, The Sturgeon Hospital and the Norwood Hospice. A Celebration of His Life and Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 31st at 1:30 pm at the St. Savior Anglican Church, Penticton, British Columbia. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
