These are almost surely the descendants of Zachariah Leigh in America. Zach himself descended from John and Sarah Leigh of Carshalton, Surrey, England, and was b. 1704. He was indentured and sent to America in 1718, and upon his release, married and started a family in Amelia Co, VA.

Zach had a son named John b. 1737/9, Amelia Co, VA d. 1785, Prince Edward Co, VA. This is probably the deceased John mentioned in the will.

John married Elizabeth Greenhill and had kids, among them: Zachariah Greenhill Leigh, Sarah Leigh, John Leigh, and Elizabeth Leigh. I have seen Z.G.'s name also spelled "Zacharias" but I believe Zachariah to be correct. And the "Gusenhill" in the will was probably a mis-transcription by someone.

Z.G. Leigh was b. 1762 in Prince Edward Co.

This Leigh line has a DNA representative in the FTDNA Leigh family study. Curiously, I, a member of the Ancestry "Lee" Family Study, match this profile. So, I am distantly kin, probably connecting back in England. It is unknown whether the "correct" spelling is Lee or Leigh - my guy's name was spelled those ways and several others; the John Leigh in England, and the original Zach both had their surname spelled both ways in various records.

Many of these Leighs moved into MS (Z.G. Leigh was among the first to make that move).

What I don't see in my info is any reference to a Childress or similar name at the John Leigh level. It would seem that what we have here is a maternal grandfather dying and leaving the estate to his grandchildren. But my info is that John married Elizabeth Greenhill, who lived until 1820.
