Glad to hear from you, Heather! That picture of Regina puzzled me for many years until I figured out that she was in mourning, for her son, Charles, who died in the Civil War. I think I remember seeing the picture on my grandfather's dresser when I was a child.
I think I said in an earlier posting that Ron Putz, of Bay City, a great-grandson of Johanna Paulina and Johannes Schluckebier, had sent my brother the Schluckebier and Putz history with birth dates from 1864 through 1972. You probably have that, and except for the Reiks, there is nothing else that goes back to Germany. There are no Heathers on his list, either. My brother, John, started researching the Reiks at about the time of the Michigan Sesquicentenniel to see if any ancestors qualified as residents in 1837. (They didn't, since the family was still living in Ohio.) Ron must have been doing the same thing and contacted John, eventually sending him all of the Reik history back to 1654. He had gotten the records personally from the church in Oberwalden. We heard about ten years ago that he had died.
So, my question to you is: do you have (or want) the Reik history? I think that my email is displayed on this site. It has changed a little. The last part is now @roadrunner.com. Send me an email if you want the Reik history in Germany.
