LARAMIE REPUBLICAN BOOMERANG. Oct. 8, 1940 pg.1 col 1 Laramie Man Dies Of Train Crash Injuries. Steve Lehmer, Union Pacific fireman, died at 4:30 o'clock this morning in a Rawlins hospital where he had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained a week ago today in the collision of a Union Pacific passenger train with a freight train at Edson. Mr. Lehmer, fireman on No. 83 a Challenger passenger train, was the only person injured in the crash. He incurred several fractured ribs, punctured lungs and internal injuries. His body will arrive in Laramie shortly after 6 o'clock tonight for burial. Mrs. Lehmer who had been with her husband in Rawlins since the day of the accident, returned to Laramie early this afternoon with her son, Jack Hungerford, who is employed in the Union Pacific signal department. Mr. Lehmer was born near here at Sherman in April 1886, and had lived in or near Laramie all his life. He had been employed as a fireman for the Union Pacific for the last 20 years. In 1935 he married Mrs. Hazel Hungerford here. She and her son Jack; two sisters; Mrs. R. J. Farrell of Buford; Mrs. L. T. Bennett of Heber, Utah; and a brother, Charles M. Lehmer of Fort Screvens, Ga. survive him. Mr. Lehmer was a member of the Babtist church of this city, a member of the Moose lodge, and belonged to three Union Pacific organizations, the Junior Old Timers club, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Funeral arrangements will remain incomplete until word is received from out-of-town relatives of the family. The Stryker mortuary will be in charge of local arrangements. Burial will be at Green Hill cemetery. THE LARAMIE REPUBLICAN-BOOMERANG. Thursday, Oct. 10, 1940 pg. 8. Funeral Rites Held for Steve Lehmer. Last rites were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Stryker mortuary. The Rev. W. J. Diegelman of the Babtist church was in charge. Lehmer, Union Pacific fireman, succumbed in Rawlins early Tuesday from injuries incurred in a passenger-freight train collision, 90 miles west of Laramie, Oct 1, 1940. Pallbearers included George Wall, W. W. Martin, D. G. Davis, C. E. Osbourne of Laramie, Jesse James and Elmer Prine of Cheyenne.
