I have no information on this except to say that thos e families that decended from Michel and Nicholas LEHMANN originally of Schirrhein, Alsace arive "too late", in that the came to the North (Ohio), and did not go to the south before slavery was abolished. Other parts of the same family might have come earlier, or other similarly named families. Just consider that few Germanics settled in the south. because of the climate and different growing conditions. Most of the Germanics in the American south were small tradespeople, craftsmen and ministers- "the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker". Most slave owners were of English extraction in the northern south (Va.); of Welsh and Irish stock in the mid south (NC to south GA.), and of mixed French heritage in the very deep south (Miss, Al, La.), at least from my understanding. GLUECK!!!
