James Legood came to Canada in 1865 with British forces to fight in the Fenian raids. He was born in England, (town unknown) in Sept. 1839. After the British forces withdrew he stayed in Canada settling first in Hamilton and later moving to Toronto. He married Sarah Jane Gregory, born Feb. 1855 in Ontario, place of marriage unknown. Found information in the 1881 census under the name of LEGWOOD, in St Patrick's Ward, Toronto. It shows 3 children, Emily, Louisa and James. 1901 Toronto City Directory shows name LEGOOD, Parliament St. Also shows on 1901 census.
