Hello! You are correct - there is very little on the surname "Leglend". I have an ancestor by the name of Ferdinand Puchot who I am trying to trace, but I have run into a brick wall. A good while ago, I came across a Ferdinand Puchot who married a woman by the name of Genaide Leglend in Cameron, Texas, in 1867. Cameron is right on the border of Mexico, which may explain why I found some Puchot's in Mexico, which shocked the heck out of me.
My ancestors (the Puchot's) are from France, either Bordeaux or the Alsace-Lorraine area.Ferdinand came to New Orleans in 1845 as a child with his family.(I don't have a clue as to why the Spanish given name!) Anyway, I think he ended up in Texas after the civil war, where he evidently married Genaide Leglend, obviously also of French ancestry.
If you have any more information that might be helpful to me, it would be greatly appreciated.Likewise, I will gladly pass on to you any more information I find on "Leglend".Since the name is so scarce here, it would seem the odds favor some type of relationship between Frank and Genaide - perhaps cousins?
