Death of an Old Resident.
Mrs. Thos. Leggott died November 29 of general debility and heart failure. She had been ailing for a long time, growing daily weaker and weaker, so that her death was not unexpected. For some time previous to her death her memory had become affected, so that she could not remember any event which had transpired recently, but would talk freely of things which had happened in her younger days. During the last week her mind became blank, and she gave no sign that she recognized people, and made no effort to talk. She seemed not to suffer and the end came peacefully and without struggle, as though the caged spirit were glad to be released from its confinement of early clay.
Ann Horton was born August 3, 1824, in Linton*, England. In the fall of 1856 she came to America, where, three years later, February 19, 1859, she was married to Thomas Leggott. To them were born three children, two of whom died in infancy. For a couple of years after their marriage, she and her husband lived on a farm near Plainfield, Ill. In March, 1861, they moved to the farm northwest of Clifton, now occupied by their surviving son, Oliver Leggott. Here they lived until about ten years ago, when the old folks concluded to take a rest from the arduous labors of farm life, and moved to Clinton, where they were living at the time of her death.
Mrs. Leggott [part of line illegible, survived by the?] one son, Oliver, to mourn her death, besides four grand children and Uncle Ben, who had made his home with his brother ever since coming to this country. These two brothers will miss the companionship of the old lady sadly, but in their bereavement they may be comforted in knowing they have the sympathy of the entire community; for they have always been prompt with their sympathy and assistance in helping their neighbors in sickness and trouble.

*There are towns named Lintons in at least half a dozen different English counties. Which one might have been Ann's birth place still unknown.
