Most Lefebvre in the USA originate from Quebec as close to one million French Canadians migrated to the USA between 1829 and 1929 when the US closed the border because of the economic recession that was taking place. The bulk of the Quebec migration occured between 1860 and 1910. The Lefebvre family name is the fourth in importance in Quebec in the mid 19th century. During the American civil war, quite a few Quebecers (between 20 to 40,000) were lured to enroll in the army with attractive enrollment bonuses (up to 1,000$ or equivalent to a 2 year salary) and daily pay (1.25$ to 1.50$) since they had difficulty getting Americans to enroll. Some stayed in the USA after it was over. ---- Gilbert Lefebvre
