Hi Toye,
I'm trying to figure out the ancestry of Samuel Roberts who m. Catherine Leete (some claim her maiden name is Butler).
You say, and I've seen all over the internet, that he was the son of Samuel/William Robers and Sarah Hinman. However, this can't be true as Sarah Hinman (as you state) was born in 1653.So Samuel that married Catherine was born 15 years before Sarah Hinman.
My mom's autosomal DNA is matching, however, to a number of people that descend from the Edward Hinman (Sarah's father) line. She is a Roberts descendant. So somewhere it seems there is a marriage between a Hinman and a Roberts, but it seems it must be in an earlier generation.
I have been pondering if the Samuel Roberts that married Catherine is actually a nephew of the Roberts that married Sarah Hinman.Or people are putting two generations together with the Samuel William Roberts.Back then, people didn't generally have middle names.
There is a William Roberts in Woodbury, CT prior to 1682.In 1702, there's a William Roberts on a list of landowners there involving a division of the meadow on Shepaug River (Ref: History of Ancient Woodbury). So if the one who married Sarah Hinman died in 1690/1, who is the William there in 1702?
Obviously more in-depth research needs to be done.Would love to know if anyone's figured out anything else about the Roberts family.
