I have the death certificate for Elizabeth Lee Alderman and it give her place of birth as Jasper Co, IL. She died on March 4, 1879 in Bond CO, IL. In the 1850 census she was living two farms away from the family of John Edward with new wife Elizabeth Lee Edwards.
She married William Alderman in Bond Co, IL on 24 Feb 1849 and somebody named Elizabeth Lee signed for her to get married. The signature is rather primitive and not one of a person who wrote very often. She had to have been less than 16 for a signature to be required.
My g grandfather said he had a brother named John and I think he might have been the less than stellar family man who was married to Mary Jane Wilson in Jasper Co, IL on 19 March 1846. A lot of people online have him as the John Lee who was the son of John Lee and Rebecca Nichol. He was 36 in the 1850 census This particular person abandoned his wife and when she died about 1879 (gotta look it up again) she said he had not seen him in 13 years. Born in 1814 does not go with an 1822 marriage. But I do not know if this man was the brother of my Elizabeth Lee.
I would like to see the "x" Elizabeth Lee put on the estate of her husband. Which husband was it? There were undoubtedly guardianship records resulting from the death
of John Lee, but I have not located them.
Another interesting point is that for the most part the members of the family have no idea when or where Elizabeth Nichol Lee Edwards died. She did not die in Bond CO and was alive in the 1860 census giving her age as 53. This was in Newton, Barton Co, MO.
