There are two seperate by related Lee families. One the Lee family of the General in Virginia under Church of England. The second is the Catholic Lees of MD Gov Thomas Sim Lee. They are related but very Catholic although some were known to be Lutheran because of a direct connection to Martin Luther.

It would be the Catholic Lees that were into blacksmithing and bricks to make the furnace. Gov Lee's son John Lee was into making iron. They lived near Frederick MD and ran iron and wire furnaces along RT up to Emmitsburg MD. In fact, off RT15 is Furnace Road right before you get to one of the first Catholic Colleges in the US known as Mount St Marys.
