William:
I am not of this family, and my data is questionable, so take it only as clues.
First, the area/timeframe you speak of is appropriate for several Lee lines that came from the Tidewater area of VA and moved west. Some continued downriver into KY and thence to TX and LA.Some moved into OH.See this forum for "Richmond Co" Lees, particularly posts by myself and Nancy Royce.
But a better bet is a Lee line once thought associated with the Richmond Co bunch. They descend from a Charles Lee m. Ann Dabbs.Charles was b. ca 1710 and is wrongly assumed by some to be the Charles b. 1706 to William Lee and Dorothy Taylor in Richmond Co, VA.
The Charles Lee / Ann Dabbs line has been worked on pretty extensively by Molly Shumate.Check her posts in the Forum.
I mention it because there is a Richard Lee m. Tabatha Arnold of about the right age in that line. And Samuel is a common given name in the family. It's a possibility only, and perhaps Molly has better info.
Here's what I have, FWIW (don't take it as gospel):
5. Richard Lee
b. ca 1740, Cumberland Co, VA
d. 1814, Bedford Co, VA
m. Tabitha Andrews, Cumberland Co, VA 1777
b. 1757, d. 1828
no issue
This Richard was a s/o Charles Lee and Ann Dabbs. The "no issue" thing might have meant that the researcher was just unable to find any kids, not necessarily that Richard didn't have any.
Good luck,
Dennis Lee
