Mary... It is my belief that Shadrick Lee and wife, Rachel Malinda Bray are the parents of Edward C. Lee.The 1880 census shows the following: 5 Jun 1880 - 1880 Federal Census for the 9th Civil District, Anderson County, Tennessee, Enumeration District 141, Page 8 - Shadrack Lee, farmer age 37, Rachel (Bray) Lee age 39, Millie Lee age 10, Edward Lee age 8, John Lee age 6, Theodore Lee age 3.
Also, Rev. John Cate and wife, Mary Catherine Miller, are the parents of Margaret Sophire Cate. The 1880 census shows the following: 14 Jun 1880 - 1880 Federal Census for the 3rd District, Roane County, Tennessee, Enumeration District 222, Page 15, Dwelling 131, Family 131 - John Cate, farming age 40, Mary C. (Miller) Cate age 43?, Elmedia C. Cate age 15, Margaret Cate age 13, William T. Cate age 11.
As you know Margaret Sophire Cate married Edward Lee on 30 Nov 1890 in Roane County. Her younger brother, William Thomas Cate, married Edward Lee's older sister, Amelia Ann "Millie" Lee on 29 Oct 1890 in Roane County.L. V. Mays, Minister of the Gospel presided over both marriages. All three families next to each other on the 1900 census for Roane County, TN.
Shadrick Lee is buried in Oral Cemetery in Roane County.Rachel Bray Lee, Rev. John Cate & wife, Mary Catherine Miller Cate, Margaret Sophire Cate Lee, William Thomas Cate & wife, Amelia Ann Lee Cate are all buried in Babb Cemetery, Roane County, TN.Not sure where Edward Lee is buried.
Rev. John Cate is the son of Daniel Hull Cate & Rachel Elizabeth Smith.I am a long time researcher of the Manard & Cate families of Jefferson County, Tennessee and beyond. You would be part of this family.Feel free to contact me at [email protected] for further exchanges.Hope this helps.
