Two new websites for Lee and Leigh lines of the I1 haplogroup

Lee and Leigh are common names in the UK and the US, but not all Lee and Leigh folks are related to each other. From the Y-DNA viewpoint, the haplogroup gives a broad picture of the origins of a Lee or Leigh line. The most common haplogroup for Lee and Leigh lines in the UK and US is the R haplogroup. In my case, my Leigh line in Wales is of the I haplogroup. Thus, when I spend time and resources in searching for my roots, I want to be sure the Leigh/Lee names I study are of haplogroup I. That is, I use Y-DNA testing to eliminate names that are obviously not related to me.

To help people with their research who have had their Y-DNA tested, I have created two websites.

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/ihaploleighlee is for Lee or Leigh persons who have had their Y-DNA tested by FamilyTreeDNA and are of the I1 haplogroup.

http://ihaploleighlee.blogspot.com/2009/09/welcome-to-clearing-house.html is a clearing house of Lee and Leigh lines that have been identified as the I haplogroup.

The purpose of the Clearing House is to help researchers locate the contact persons for particular surname lines. Entries in the Clearing House are of the earliest known ancestor of a person who had his Y-DNA tested and are of the form name-of-earliest-ancestor, birth year, death year. If a researcher sees an entry that might correlate with his or her ancestor, the researcher can use the information given for that person to locate the contact person for that line. Currently, the Clearing House has all of the Lee persons from Clint Lee's group at Ancestry and all of the Lee and Leigh records from the ysearch database from FamilyTree DNA.
