This may have been written to you in the past, but I just dug it out of my notes:
Have you ever researched John Lee, Esq. & Alice Richards as possible parents of George Lee?? John and Alice were m. in Harpford, Devon, England ca 1760.
In the Histories of Frederick Co, VA - John & Alice came to VA in 1770 to settle the est of Alice Richard's Uncle, John Richards. John Lee d. 1791, Frederick Co, VA. In the 1782 tax list for Frederick Co - there are 2 Henry Richards (father & son?), a John Lee - 9 whites, & Richard Ridgeway - 8 whites. All seem to be living near one another. There weren't many Lee's here at this time.
I only have 3 children so far for John Lee. They are John Barnett Lee, b. 18 Mar 1765-ENG. m. Elizabeth Elkins. Some people thought Asa Lee, b. 1793 - belonged to this family - but we know he doesn't. Another child was Alice Elizabeth Lee, b. Mar. 1761 ENG. m. Asa Jacobs 1780 in NJ. And Mary Lee b. 25 May 1763 ENG. (It appears that the John Lee family could have been in Burlington Co, NJ - before going to Frederick Co, VA. When they immigrated from England - perhaps they had stopped in CT or PA-since our George could have been born in 1 of these places. We have George b. 1760-65 -but since Mary Ridgeway would have been 17-when she m. -perhaps. George was only 20 or 21-making him born in 1767-68 or so.
There is also a George Lee in Beaufort Co, NC in the 1790 / 1800 period, but if your George m. Mary ca 1788, this isn't your guy. There was a George in Rowan Co, NC in the 1778 tax list; might be too old to be your boy. There's a George who died in Hardy Co, VA in 1811; it's a possible. There's a George in Wilkes Co, GA in 1785.
The only other fairly unique names in this bunch are Asa and Phebe and Alfred. Here are some possible clues:
Asa Lee b. 1769, Killingly, CT. Had brother named Jesse, father named Jesse, aunt named Phebe.
Asa Lee d. 1799, Currituck Co, NC. No other matches found.
There's some Jesses, Phebes, and Georges in a family of Lees in NC. Duplin Co. Nothing looks like a real good match.
Sorry, but most of the stuff I found had your name on it, so it wouldn't add to your knowledge.
