There is a story in our family about a schoolteacher that survived being scalped by the indians. I think it was a relative of Caroline Lecompte, my mother's sister Florence told me when I had to do a geneology report for high school,(all I can remenber is that it was a french name). Unfortunately I didn't keep the info. My sister remembers our grandmother (Callie Chandler Flack) telling the story, and it was Callie's grandfather. As you can see things are remembered differently after so many years. Have you ever heard of this schoolteacher? I know from the census records that there was a schoolteacher on the LeCompte side, but can't get any info about the LeComptes. I noticed on the 1900 census for Caroline Meriwether that she couldn't read or write. So I don't think it was her father, obviously. Notify Administrator about this message?
