LeGates, Mears, LeCompt

Trying to do an "end run" around a brick wall. We have traced the LeGates' back to 1801 but can't seem to find anything beyond 1801.
According to letter from Reverend Calvin E. LeGates dated July 31, 1976...
"Information has been given that four newly married couples left from the coast of Normandy, France about 1801 and landed at Lewes {Delaware}. Three of these couples bor the names of LeGates, Mears and LeCompt. LeGates' settled back of Laurel {Delaware}."
Would anyone on the LeCompt(e) side have any information on the Reverend's information? Appreciate any help I can get.
