Based on what you've written, I would guess that your Stephen L. LeCompte is the son of James Leonard LeCompte (1831-1878) and Mary E. Vanderford (1843-dec) who married 28 Jun 1864 in Talbot County, MD, where Stephen was born along with siblings Eleanora "Ella", Samuel, John V., and Mary E.

James Leonard LeCompte was the son of Edward Elliot LeCompte and Eleanor Leonard (of Royal Oak, Talbot County, MD). I have been researching the brother of James recently, namely John H. LeCompte who married a woman of Indian descent named Rebecca Greenhawk.

Note that James Leonard LeCompte had 3 wives and children by each of them. By his fist wife, he eventually had a grandson named Walter Sullivan LeCompte born 1893 who was named after his mother's midwife, Annie Sullivan.

I have no documentation that suggests your Stephen L. LeCompte is the same one I have, but the dates seem to line up, and I noticed the name Stephen Leonard LeCompte in your list of progeny.
