Looking for descendents and for information on the ancestry of Charles Roy/King and Mary Lecompte/Lecomte, my g-g-grandparents.
Charles was born in 12/1840 in Canada, and died 9/3/1901 in Osceola Township, Houghton County, Michigan.
Mary b. 11/1849 in Canada, and d. 1926.
Charles, age 28, and Mary, age 16, were married on 8/12/1865 in Hancock, Houghton County, Michigan by Edward Jacker, a Catholic Missionary. Witnesses were Joseph Moraque (sp?) of Hancock and George Lecomte, of Houghton.
Charles was listed as a boot/shoemaker in Schoolcraft Twp., Groverton, Torch Lake, Lake Linden, and Tamarac City on the census records of 1870, 1880, 1900, birth and death records of his children, and in his obituary notice.
Charles, Mary, and many of their children are buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lake Linden, Houghton County, Michigan.
Children of Charles and Mary:
(The names of the children were taken from various censuses and from the Houghton County birth and death records.)
Elsie or Eliza, b. 1867 (1870 Census)
Charles, b. 1868. (1870 Census) m. Mary Provost
George, b. 1870, d. 1887
William, b. 1871 (1880 Census) m. Holly?
Georganne, b. 1872, d. 1919, m. Charles Cadeau in 1892. (My g-grandparents).
Delphis, b. 1875, d. 1887
Louis, b. 1876, d. 1955
Joseph, b. 1878, d. 1964
Albert, b. 1879
Narcisse or Nelson, b. 1881, d. 1905
Mary or Ida, b. 1883
Joseph, b. 1885, d. 1887
Roune, b. 1886
Unknown, b. 1887, d. 1887
Edward or Edmond, b. 1888
Angelina, b. 1891

Charles’s last name was listed as Roy on his marriage certificate, on his tombstone, and on the marriage certificate of his daughter Georganne, but has been listed as King on other records. Most of their children went by the name of King.

Looking forward to hear from any of Charles and Mary’s descendents.

C. Cadeau
