Walter Leckie of Disheour, Stirlingshire
Does anyone know the identity of Walter Leckie of Disheour; or the
location of Disheour (or Discheour), Stirlingshire, Scotland?
I'm trying to identify the ancestry of Elizabeth Leckie, who married
George Buchanan of Gartincaber, Stirlingshire, Scotland, in about
1607.John Guthrie Smith in "Strathendrick and Its Inhabitants from
Early Times: An Account of the Parishes of Kintry, Balfron, Killearn,
Drymen, Buchanan, and Kilmaronock," (Glasgow: James MacLehose and
Sons, Publishers to the University, 1896), p. 350 says Elizabeth
Leckie was a daughter of Walter Leckie of Disheour.Smith cites
"Stirlingshire Sasines, vol. vii, fol. 144, 21st June 1638" for this
statement. And in a footnote on page 350, Smith calls Elizabeth
Leckie's father Walter Leckie, Elder, of Discheour, citing
"Stirlingshire Sasines, vol. vi, fol. 192." There may be further
information about Walter Leckie of Disheour in "Stirlingshire
Sasines," if someone has access to this series.)
Robert Gilmour Edwards Leckie in "Leckie of Leckie" (Vancouver,
British Columbia, 1913) pp. 67-76 describes Walter Leckie of that Ilk,
who was born probably in about 1530, lived in Stirlingshire, and died
probably before November 20, 1605.This Walter Leckie was the eldest
son of John Leckie of that Ilk and Margaret Seton, daughter of Ninian
Seton of Touch.I wonder if Walter Leckie of Disheour was a nephew
or younger son of Walter Leckie of that Ilk.I don't think Walter
Leckie of Disheour was the same person as Walter Leckie of that Ilk,
because--if my chronology is correct--Walter Leckie of Disheour was
born probably in about 1560 rather than about 1530, when Walter Leckie
of that Ilk probably was born.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Shawn
