There is a book published by the Centre for Lebanese Studies in England called: The Lebanese in the World: A Century of Emigration. It was published in 1992. The book is a scholarly collection of papers delivered at a conference. I found a used copy of the book on the internet. It is helpful in explaining what spurred emigration movement. I know there were some estimates of how may left the country, but I can't put my finger on it at the moment. If you are interested in the book, the Centre for Lebanese Studies at Oxford has a website. It is http://nonuniv.ox.ac.uk/cls.
