ASSSALY (Abouassali) and SHAMAS Families
Posted by: Emy Core Stewart Date: June 22, 1998 at 17:56:56

Looking for information about my Lebanese-Syrian roots. My great grandparents were Betros and Miriam ABOUASSALI (or ASSALY). My grandfather was born in Rasheya-el-Wadie in 1878. His parents died when he was young and he came to America with his uncle. They went first to Canada and then to Ohio. When my grandfather came to America his name was changed to George Core (Khoury).I believe that my grandfather's sisters were Sada-Afeefee Shaheen and Tecla Corey. Sada had a daughter Eva Shaheen and Tecla's child was Tecla. I believe that they both lived in Ohio. My grandmother was Wadia SHAMAS whose parents were Habeen and Zelpha Shamas of Marjaoun. She married my grandfather in Ada, Oklahoma, where they had a store on Main Street. My grandmother's nepehews back in Beirut, Lebanon were Sleiman NOFAL, George Nofal, and Michael Nofal. Their mother was Rahia Nofal. I would appreciate any help with information about these families. Thank you! Emy
