Soloman "Nick" Khoury Springfield MA was my grandfather

I am trying to put together a family tree. My Grandfather owned Nick's Market (Butcher shop) on Locust Street, Springfield MA in the 40's and 50's. He married Helen Hajjar. They had 4 children. Donald, 73, Michael Deceased, Joan and James. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what our original last name was before it became Khoury. I would also like the proper spelling of the town in Syria my grandfather came from "Shalifar?" I believe he came to this country through Canada between 1910-1920. My father, Donald was bron in Dover New Hampshire before they moved to Alganquin Street in Springfield.
Any help would be great! Thank you in advance.-Alisha Helen Khoury
