Hadad's in Yonkers, NY 1903-current
Hello everyone!
I'm researching the family line of my close friend with the surname Hadad and have hit a brick wall with my research. I hope some of you might be able to help me out with your expertise!
My friend's father is named Joseph Hadad after his father Joseph who died in 1958 when Joe Jr was a toddler. His grandparents Shikrei & Malikey (the immigrant ancestors) died only a few years later, so there isn't much known about the family's history other than that they immigrated to the US to escape religious persecution as Christians. The family is still strongly Christian and very interested in anything I might be able to uncover about their history, especially where religion is concerned.
The immigrant ancestors are as follows:
Mother: Tacla (Talpla) Hadad b. 1864 in Lebanon (city/village unknown). She is listed as a widow on the first census after her immigration. I have no information available about her deceased husband. Her maiden name is also unknown. She had four children, two of whom remained in Zahleh.
Son: Shikrei Hadad b. Jun 10 1883 in Zahleh, Lebanon, d. 1958 in Yonkers, NY. Married Malikey/Mackoy/Mallaby Mansour (b. 1888 in Homs, Syria, d. 1957 in Yonkers, NYC) and had five children- Mary, Joseph, Julia, Jamelia and William.
Son: Annis (Amnis/Anice) Hadad b. August 29, 1889 in Zahleh, Lebanon d. 1968 in Dade County, FL. Annis Hadad was a clergyman and missionary who may have been involved in some way with the Volunteers of America and may also have done missionary work in Nigeria in the late 1920s. He never married and died in Dade County, Florida in 1968.
Shikrei came to the US in 1904, Tacla & Annis followed in 1909, all departed to the US from Havre, France. Shikrei is always listed as married, even on his original ship record in 1904, but Malikey does not appear on the census with him until 1920. On the 1910 census, he resides with his mother and brother. I have been unable to locate any immigration information about Malikey, but one census recorded her year of immigration as 1902. I do not know if they were married in Lebanon or the US, or if she was Shikrei's first wife or second. Their oldest child Mary was born in 1912, two years after the census that showed Shikrei living with his mother and brother was taken.
Any leads or information you might have for me would be greatly appreciated-- my friend's father has long been heartbroken that his rich family history was lost to death and circumstance.
Thank you so much!
