Hello Julie,
That is extremely nice of you to have taken your time to look for that information...extremely nice. Thank you!
I am a member of Ancestory.com and have found the census records. My great grandfather died in Shennandoah in 1919, 6 months before my grandfather was born, from the Spanish Flu. His name was Joseph Abraham and he came from Lebanon to set up residence before Afify came over. Afify came over with her Parents, Albert and Freida Nickolas (Nicholas), her sister Nabeeha (Marie)and her younger brother Theodore. Freida's maiden name was Nahas. Theodore some how ended up with the last name Nichols and no one knows why. After Joseph's death, having 4 children and being in that day and age, Afify's father decided she needed to be married. Her parents had a border renting a room and his name was Manuel Ramos Martin. She married Manuel and the entire family moved to Wheeling with the kids. Wheeling was where Afify's cousin (Aunt Jeannette), Jeannette Elias Faddoul, Lived. Nabeeha, called Marie by the family, married James Khoury/Koury and moved to Boston. Theodore married a lady named May and moved to Baltimore. My grandfather, also named Joseph, had an older sister named Mae. In the early or late 80's she went to Lebanon to visit family. It is my understanding that the family had several grocery stores in downtown Beruit but at some point had to sell them to the government for the land. I don't know how my aunt Mae found the family and it is assumed that they were from Afify's side and not Joseph's side. After my aunt died my grandfather ended up with alot of her things and in with some papers was a letter sent to Mae from the family in Lebanon. Their names were George and Rain Aboud. There was a return address on the envelope that was written in Arabic. I have had an Arabic friend try to read the address but it is too sloppily written to read.
So...with all that, I'm left with the names; Nickolas/Nicholas, Nichols, Abraham, Nahas, Elias, Faddoul, Abboud/Aboud, Khoury/Koury.
I have a pretty good start on the family tree on Ancestory.com under my name. Lots of pictures as well. My grandfather, being 91, remembers bits and pieces of family history but not alot.
My dream would be to find the family that still live in Lebanon and visit them.
Sorry I wrote so much.

Sincerely,

Robb
