I may be able to assist in regards to the information you submitted regarding Curley Hikel. I believe this is my grandfather, who came over to the US from Syria (and we were told for many years he was from Lebanon until very recently the truth was provided he was actually from Syria). Curley lived in Danvers, MA, married to Shirley. He died when I was very young, so I would say in the mid 1970's, but I believe he moved to Danvers residence with Shirley in the 40's. They had two sons; Richard (my father) and Terry, my uncle who lives in Texas. Shirley passed in 2004.

I was never really provided with much information about my family from Syria. Apparently, it had more to do with political issues as to why we had to say we were from Lebanon, and it wasn't until all the older relatives passed I found out about my true Syrian ancestry.

I don't know if this helps, but I hope so. I do know the HIkel name was changed from some other spelling at the time they came to the United States.

A few things my grandmother, Shirley, did tell me before she passed was that we had old relatives connected to the Mayo family, and also the local indians of eastern MA; and further back in history she did indicate a relation to Sir Francis Drake; but I would have to find papers I wrote a few decades ago to find out more about those connections.

There is also a Peter Hikel in FL who my father, Richard indicated was his Uncle. I believe he came from ME because I was told of land our Hikel family had in ME for many years, but was sold at some point. I do not have many historians in my family as they are all seperated, passed on or, in the case of my father, has severe brain injury and lost his memory.
