Hi Ariel, Turkish rule in Syria was into two big periods: Memlukid Turks (From 1260 to 1517) and Ottoman Turks (From 1517 t0 1918), and if you calculate it Turks occupied Greater Syria more than 650 years! So many Turkish families settled in Syria and were arabized by time, many Syrian and Lebanese families claim the Turk origin. Many of Muslim nobilities in Syria and Lebanon are descendants of Turks, and most of all they are proud of their origin! Before 1918, many rich Muslim men married Turkish women, intermarriages between Arab and Turks were very common when Turks were here in my city (Lattakia) there are many families which have Turkish origins, not only the families but also many words and nicknames and names in the spoken language in The East are Turkish.
Turkey still occupies northern parts of Syria, the Roman and religious capital of Greater Syria (Antioch) is under Turkish occupation till day.
Best regards
Jack
