Dear Ariel:
The name "Obeida" has variant meanings in Arabic, but the most famous is " Worshipper of God".
In Syria and Lebanon most of the families have oral traditions, written tradition is very weak because when Turks evacuated Syria in 1918 they burned most of the documents and official papers , so it's hard to have an official paper before the Turkish rule.
I study engineering, but I am interested in History and Ethnology, and you ,what do you do in life?
My name is original ,it's the same here and in the identity card.
Best wishes Jack
